National Library
August 3, 2005  |  Her Viewfinder

I’ve been looking forward to today’s visit to the new National Library. And was even more excited when I was standing on the 16th floor… a restricted access area for the public. I’ve heard so much about it and wow it impressed me! Imagine standing in the center of Singapore having a bird eye view of Singapore! The place, known as The Pod (i think), can be rented by corporate sector for functions/ events. The cost… said to be about S$2.5k per day for 5 hours. Steep but cool! Imagine being there at night! The view… wow! I will definetly be there if I should get an invitation to the place for ANY occassion!

For those who are wondering what I’m talking about, here’s some photos taken at the place – 16th floor of the new National Library. (No time to crop nice nice so these are the raw images.)

First… the gents!
I just can’t control my curiousity!
I had to go in to take a peep!

erm, this is not the restricted access (rare materials) section is it?
i suppose this is just an events/conference area for people to book huh?

well for the real restricted area where even librarians have trouble getting in – the LKCRL rare material collection

but oops this is only on the 13th floor :)

but wow for 2.5k/day for this top floor view.. should be cool :)
we managed to get some nice shots even from the lower floors too

actually, there’s nothing much in the new library, just a little bit more spacious than the previous one. anyway, i like the picture of the colourful buildings. nice!

    MrRamble: thanks for adding. :-)

Chin: My school organised a tour round the library for staff. We were there to see how they function and stuff like that.

monkey: the 16th floor is not open to public unless your company book it for events. Maybe you can try organise a coporate visit. You might get it. And yes, the LKCRL has these 3 beautiful story walls that’s restricted to researchers only. Very nice. The others would include the staff only entrance on the other block. The main library is on one block. Hmm… quite complex. The tour guide (publicity manager or something) was telling us all about the structure and all.

Hey, your pictures are much nicer that what I took. I love the Pod, don’t you? The view is just great. But somehow, I suddenly have a notion to call it the “iPOD”… sheesh.

To Stanley – not true that “there’s nothing much in the new library” :) Guess it depends on what you are looking for.

If you're reading a post and see a missing photo message from flickr like this...

don't post comment to ask why. I blame it on the stupid sync on iPhoto!
