Thanks Claudia. I've had this conversation with Brian at least 3 times and with Pat around 1.5 times. I personally prefer not to invite bloggers to events if it's meant to be a one-off without relevance to the bloggers' interests and without follow up for deeper relationship-building with the brand in question. That's the main reason Brian and I set up The Open Room...to try to facilitate better communication between our clients and the netizens who are interested in them via real conversations that do away with "marketing speak" and press release messages. This works better in some cases than others and we're always happy to hear your thoughts.

Good and heartfelt points there Claudia. I think the toughest part in the whole game is to be both a good social media buddy/citizen while being a go getting marketer/publicist who goes for the kill each time. The very spirit of social media sometimes goes against the grain of conventional PR wisdom.

Being one who sits on both sides of the fence, I can empathise with how bloggers feel about being treated as just another "platform" or "channel". At the same time, I also have to ensure that my buddies in the mainstream media are happy with what I provide them with and don't feel slighted. How does one keep both sides happy while still achieving one's own corporate objectives? That is the dilemma that marketers and publicists like myself face on a daily basis.

Thanks Kevin! I'm just sharing my thoughts openly. Hope it'll be of help for those who needs it. :)

Gary I'm still far from being a pro-blogger lah! I also wonder where I got the time to do so much! But still I find not enough time!

Agree with Aaron on it not being a fab. What we need is to find more bloggers to fill in the gap that's missing. And hopefully bloggers one day can go mainstream too. And yes! New rules and tricks need to be implemented to better engage the bloggers!
