The Days – I can relate to Those Days!

September 10, 2008  |  Movie Reviews, Reviews  |  Blog Aloud, Featured, features, Flashback, gv, Movie Reviews, Reflection, review, The Days  |  2 comments

Are you familiar with the YELLOW ve-sa-se jeans, red padded so-nia-ri-kel sling bag, fa-ra-ga-mo hairclip and big big bucket belt that was wore on the upper waist line!! Bia Zui lah! The “sah ba lak, qit ba di” walk lah! And and and… Tea Dance at Fire!! OMG!! Those were The Days lah!!

The Days shows a true uniquely Singapore style of gangsterism during the 1980s. I’m giving it a 4.8 out of 5 stars!

Claud’s Latest Plushie – Wall.E!

August 31, 2008  |  Movie Reviews  |  Eva, Movie Reviews, Plushie, show, Toy, Wall.E  |  5 comments

Have you caught Wall.E yet? I went to catch it today and will be catching it AGAIN on Sunday!! I’ll share more about the 2nd trip when I’m back from it. ^_^

First half of the show passed by with only a few words exchanged between Wall.E and Eve. It seems almost like a silent movie if without the music and sound effects. But everyone is just happy to watch Wall.E rolling himself around.

I strongly encourage parents to bring their kids to catch Wall.E. This is not just another cartoon movie. But there’s a deeper meaning and thoughts put into the story.

If I were to bring my child to the show, some of the questions I’ll ask after the movie…

12 Lotus – A Mixture of Emotions

August 12, 2008  |  Movie Reviews, Reviews  |  12 Lotus, 715, Blog Aloud, Featured, features, gv, Movie Reviews, Qi Yi Wu, review, Royston Tan  |  5 comments

After the fantastic and emotionally torturing experience for me in Royston’s previous show, “881“, I was prepared with 2 packets of tissue paper this time round. But at the end of the show, I didn’t even touch them. “12 Lotus” gave me a mixture of emotions. When I was about to start my tap and cry, something just happened and immediately switched the mood to the total opposite. Emotions I got during the session… I was touched, I teared, I laughed, my heart almost fall out from my chest and I was disturbed. (Sound almost like an anti-climax sex right? Haha!)

I heart the Iron Man!

May 1, 2008  |  Movie Reviews, Reviews  |  Iron Man, Movie Reviews, recommended, review  |  5 comments

This is one show that everyone should catch! Especially if you’re a fan of Transformer, Robocop, Matrix and some fun in action movie. Yap! Iron Man is almost like a mashed up of the above movies with its own twist, jokes and directions.

The lead actor, Tony Stark by Robert Downey Jr., was the right man for the show! He’s charismatic, humorous and quite an action hero. Somehow resemble a little like Wolverine in X-men. But a smaller version of him. He did a great job at portraying the character of Tony Stark. The way he looked into his assistance’s, Pepper played by Gwyneth Paltrow, eyes during the dance at the ball will probably melt many girls heart. His character in the show is very well scripted. From a playboy, billionaire genius and one who lives in a world of his own indulgence, he was transformed to a whole new man after his kidnapped encounter. Through this experience, he sees the truth behind his company and how his inventions were misused. Hence he is determined to create an ultimate high-tech armor to attack and destroy the real evil doers and protect the world.

Credits have to go to the huge graphic and animation team. They managed to create super realistic robots and computer interface used by Tony. His lab at the basement of his super stylish house is filled with high tech and futuristic equipments and machines. I couldn’t keep my mouth close when Tony worked on his Iron Man prototype on the computers. Very impressive! Love it!

This is surely a must watch for all the techie and geeky people out there. Go and be dazzled by the clever use of animations and technology that brings all the Wows and Ooohs for the Iron Man.

I’m giving the show a 4.5 our of 5 stars! Loving it! If only I can fly like him!
Love the show too? Why not become a fan?

Do stay for after the credits if you’re watching the show. But be warned that the credits roll for a super super long time! If you’re too lazy to wait for it, well, just click and drag from here on to find out what’s at the end of the credits… from here>> “Do you think you’re the only super hero in the world?… Who the hell are you? … I’m the director of Shin. I’m here to talk to you about the adventure of the S.H.I.E.L.D.” Yap! So there’ll be Iron Man 2! Can’t wait!

881 vs Ang Mo Liu Lian

September 2, 2007  |  Movie Reviews, Reviews  |  881, Movie Reviews, review, Royston Tan  |  No Comments

I’m glad that I’ve finally found the time to go watch this movie with mum. Have been wondering what made this film so popular and well received. Aunties and Uncles all gave it full thumbs up. Let me share my two cents worth on the infamous 881…

Before the show started, the sight of the movie posters, standees and promotional display makes me eek. The first impression I had was “What the **** is this man? Another one to waste money on?? Not my kind of show…” and now, I am so guilty for even having these thoughts! 881 is one show that 100% Singaporeans cannot missed! Especially if you’re born in the 60s and before. I watched this show today with Mum at AMK Hub. Although after showing in the cinema for more than 2 weeks now, its still full house for all the shows. Seated in the cinema, I can see families, from the young to the really old, walking in. There were couple of old granny whom I guess were more than 80 years old! I truely admire their family and the granny. Even though they have problem walking, they still went to the cinema, climbed slowly up and down the stairs in the cinema just to catch the show!

Brillant use of colors, costumes, songs and dance! The show gives the younger generations, like myself, a chance to see the true beauty of getai. 881 has getai at their best! The elaborated costumes and hair do, to the fight behind the scenes between the getai singers and managers. All these we’ll never get to see at the present days. The way Royston Tan directed the movie brings back memory of the olden days movie. According to my mum, during her time, the movies were like this too. Every 2 sentences said, the actors and actresses would start singing and their songs filled with meanings. My eyes were teary almost everytime they started singing their feelings and emotions. 881 was such an emotional ride for me. One second I was laughing at the funny hokkien, the next second I was all teary and mushy by the emotions… by the end of the movie, I didn’t know whether to cry or to laugh!

The only thing that disgusted me was the Ang Mao Tan Ang Mo Liu Lian. I’ve nothing against the sisters, but their chinese really cannot make it loh! And I think they’re better off modelling or hosting. Acting… not quite there yet. On the other hand, the actress as 881 deserve lots of credits.

This is a 100% MUST watch movie! Go catch it before it ends… am waiting for the DVD to be release now. 100% going to buy and keep. So that our future generations will get to watch it too!
