If Only It Was Not Too Late

September 26, 2010  |  Show to catch  |  Ah Kong, Dementia, Family, Health, HPB, Royston Tan  |  No Comments

The title reminded me of him. The opening reminded me to remember what he has done when he was around. By the sixth minute, I couldn’t hold back anymore. It was an emotional short film.

I believe when he departed, he had us in his mind and remembered the good times we shared. I believe he hasn’t suffered from dementia.

Relieved that my Ah Ma is still actively involved around the house. Maybe I should teach her how to Facebook, so she can view the photos from our family activities! Maybe I should ask her children to buy an iPad for her birthday! (Godma you’re reading this right? *hint*) Got to keep Ah Ma’s mind active and encourage her to take up new hobby! Please go read about dementia and help the elderly in your family.

Ah Kong is a new short film written and directed by Royston Tan and presented by the Health Promotion Board.

I miss Gonggong.

I Can Live It Up Without Lighting It Up! So Can You!

Finally I experienced my very first flash mob! Having missed a few of these actions I was determined to go for this. But I’ve to admit that the lucky draw (with 3 iPad up for grab) was a main pull of course! Though I didn’t win any of the iPads, I had a fun day walking and sweating together with Abang. :P

What Harmless Fun?

February 23, 2010  |  Lifestyle  |  HPB, NSSL, Sex  |  No Comments

“Fun is fun, where got harmful or harmless one?” And you’re wrong! Something which to you may be fun, but to others it may be a very painful experience. I can so list down 101 fun that may seem harmless but is very harmful in actual fact.

Picture this… Party with tons of booze, horny guys and sexy gals. Uh-huh… you get where I’m heading to right? Worst if an attached guy gets involve with the girlfriend’s best friend! And… and… she gets pregnant!! Wah!! Damn drama already can! But that’s how true life can get! Ask around, if you’ve got friends old enough, they’ll sure have some similar stories to share.

So are these kind of fun still fun to you?

No, I’m not saying that I’ve done anything naughty! I’m just sharing a new online drama which is taking place right now at notsosecretlives.com. Not going to tell you more else I’m going to let the cat out of the bag!

Just go check the site out and follow the drama! Participate in the discussions on facebook and take your stand on who you think has committed the sin in “Crossroads”.

Party for a good cause

That’s what I did last weekend at Supperclub – to spread the awareness of HIV/AIDS. Say it With Art, World Aids Day 2009 party in Singapore. Hundreds gathered that night in support of the movement.

It was a night filled with band performances by Electico, Jack & Rai and few others, cool looking people, supporters of World Aids Day, friends, bloggers, good food (the carrot cake was the good!) and of course, prizes to be won. Sadly our plan of walking away with all the three iPod touch failed.

May 28, 2009  |  Beauty Guide, Contests & Giveaways  |  Canon EOS 500D, Giveaways, HPB, Limited Editions, Live it up  |  1 Comment

I’ve got 4 pairs of super cool limited edition rings to giveaway!

In support for better health and breathe, I’ve agreed to help plug this for a friend of mine. And these rings are just very unique lah! Another way of wearing this is to slide a finger each with your love one. Redefine “Two becomes one”. Ermm… off topic… back to the ring.

A total of 3,000 pieces of “Live It Up Without Lighting Up” limited edition rings have been specially produced in commemoration of World No Tobacco Day 2009.

Each ring is meant to fit 2 fingers. By wearing the ring on the middle and index fingers, you commit to “Live It Up Without Lighting Up”. If you have any friend or family member who smokes, you can also pass the ring to them to encourage him/her to quit smoking.

Here’s one way how you can get hold of the ring:

  1. Go to Rockin’ Without Smokin’ event at Plaza Singapura, Open Plaza between 29 and 31 May 09 happening from 6pm to 10pm.
  2. Get a questionnaire from either the “Grim Reaper” or the YAH volunteers.
  3. Complete the form as you walk down the Experiential exhibition.
  4. Return the completed form at the end of the Experiential exhibition (“Fresh Air garden”) and you will be given the ring. While stocks last!

More details can also be found HERE.

ORRRR!!! If you can’t be at Plaza Singapura on those dates, you can fill up the form below and I’ll send the rings over to you! I’ve got 4 pairs to giveaway! If there are more than four submissions, I will conduct a draw to determine who’ll get the rings. This giveaway will end on Sunday at 10pm or when I receive 10 (my favorite number) requests, whichever comes first. (Note: I will only be sending out to local addresses.)

Some shots of the unique and limited edition Live it Up Without Lighting Up rings…
(That’s a mouthful for name of a ring!)

Join the ring lovers in facebook.

Form removed. Will be sending out the rings on Monday to the lucky 4!

Should AIDS have a cure?

December 3, 2008  |  Happenings  |  Canon Ixus 950IS, event, fort canning, HPB, Love Amplified, singapore, World Aids Day Concert  |  1 Comment

The night of 29 November 2008 was the first ever World AIDS Day Concert held here in Singapore. I was there with my best friend and we brought our one love along. It was a rather warm night but that didn’t stop the thousands of people who gathered at Fort Canning for the concert.

Entrance to the concert area

Wristband that was stuck very tightly around my wrist

Can’t really see the crowd but it was packed!

Throughout the concert, the hosts and artists were actively spreading messages to create more awareness for HIV/ AIDS and the facts about it. Most importantly, having just one love.

I’ve to admit, I also only recently started to learn more about AIDS with influence from the chinese drama on TV starring Chan Hanwei and Zoe Tay. And after listening so much and watching the many awareness videos throughout the concert, not only am I more aware about AIDS, I had quite a conversation with my other half while driving home after the concert. The question we had, “Should AIDS have a cure?” Before I share my thoughts, let me know just share more about the wonderful concert and some suggestions I hope the organisers will consider for future concerts.

There was a great line-up of artists for the night with a well mixed performances for a diversified audience. My favorites for the night were The Strikeforce, Hossan Leong, Dim Sum Dollies and Stefanie Sun.

The Strikeforce is almost like the local version of the world famous Blue Man Group. There was water and light effects while they played on their drums. Sadly, there wasn’t enough mics around and the volume projected wasn’t as loud to cause an impact. But still it was an enjoyable performance.

Hossan!! Love his singing and his showmanship. I’m so going to try make it for his stage show in the future. This was the first time I saw him life on stage and wow!

After catching them at Explore Singapore’s media preview, I know I was going to enjoy Dim Sum Dollies performance. But when it happens, I love love love (yes more loves cause there were 3 of them!) their acts! The parking pontianak! The songs and their acts! When will they be performing at the Esplanade?

Like all concerts like these, they’ll always save the best for last. And when she stepped on stage, fans who went to chop seats as early as 1.30pm went crazy and many charged up to the stage front for closer look of their idol and cameras were flashing non-stop at Stefanie Sun.

I cheated, this I took off the projection screen at the side

With such a successful first World Aids Day Concert, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bigger and even better one next year. If they have more and bigger sponsors next year, I really hope this concert can open free for all and hold it at the Padang! It’s a great way to spread awareness and educate the young ones who rarely watch TV nor read the papers. Through such parties and concert, where they’ll sure go if the artists are right and event is free, more people will get to learn about AIDS isn’t it? Perhaps this might just happen. (I hope)

So now… my thoughts on the title…

Should AIDS have a cure?

I’m looking at this from a personal point of view… so let’s say we finally (after more more than 27 years) find a cure for AIDS,

  • wouldn’t AIDS become just another illness, like a flu, where you’ll get well after some pills or jabs?
  • would we still need the one love movement?
  • would man and woman be as faithful as they are now?
  • would there be more family problems?
  • would there still be needs for condoms?
  • wouldn’t there be raise of social issues?

What do you think? Should there be a cure?

To me, I don’t.

That’s the t-shirt I wore to the concert and I’ll be wearing it again for sure!
