Being in the almost forefront of the digital space here in Singapore, and thanks to the many good friends whom I’d met throughout the journey, I’ve got a few opportunities to share about my thoughts and experiences in the social media community with traditional mainstream media journalists. Usually there will either be an email interview or a phone interview. Sometimes there may be a meetup at a cafe where the interview is conducted. Being who I am, I will share whatever I know openly with those who really are keen to learn and write a well prepared article.
But when the journalist tell me that she’d failed to search the web for information or find blog posts about the topic in discussion, it irritates me. If I can use a single keyword, e.g. the name of an even to find an entire page of blogs posts discussing about it in Google, I don’t see why you can’t. Now that I think about it, I regretted sending links and information over to them. It’s their job to search and investigate, not mine.
Blogging has helped me record my life, happenings and memories in a way that’s openly searched, read and used by anyone that chances upon my blogs. Some of these posts come in very useful for future referencing or if there’s a need to provide a set of comment with regards to that particular event that happened months ago, blog posts surely serve a better memory refresher than trying to squeeze your braincell dry trying to remember what happened or who were there etc. Especially if you keep your posts organised and accompany it with related photos, videos or links, referencing back your past is made easy and possible through blogging.
Every journalists, in the digital space or not, need to get into the talks and walks first, before trying to make sense of something totally new to them and try to draft an article on it based on interviews and hear-say from others. Why not take the plunge and dive into it yourself and experience it? That’s one thing bloggers love. Experiencing things first hand. We would rather spend time attending an event and trying out the product in real life, then just reading off a press release. We take action first and blog later.
Are you picking up social media tools and learning to be human in the digital space already? I hope you do!

If you’d managed to read Straits Times today, you would have seen my big round face plastered on page A6. And ya, I’ve put on weight! LOL!
Gen Y gets down to work is written by Sandra Davis. She was also the one who did the previous Gen Y story where I laid down on the grass with my gadgets. Its very nice of her to remember me and got in touch for this latest piece.
She told me the piece will come out sometime this week and when my phone started ringing non-stop with SMSes since 10am, I knew its out.

The Beginning
Sandra dropped an email asking how I was coping with the recession. I shared what I did and how I try to maintain low running cost so that I can help my clients save too. And I do not see the recession as a downfall but a great opportunity. That’s why I started 24seven.
If you’d bought your Sony Vaio TZ machines between May 2007 to Aug 2008, you might want to check if yours in one of the affecting models. Sony is recalling these machines for inspection and repair.
When I got home today, I saw this chinese newspaper clipping on my table. I think mum left it for me to take note. Not sure if this news is on the English papers or not, but I thought I should just post it here for those who don’t read the papers. (Like me!) Furthermore, I know of some friends who’re using Sony. So ya… please take note of the following…
Sony has recently discovered that limited number of VAIO “TZ series” notebook computers sold between May 2007 and Aug 2008 may, in rare cases, generate heat around the DC jack inlet and frame of LCD screen, which creates the potential of deformation of the plastic casing.
As part of our ongoing commitment to customer satisfaction and safety, Sony is offering a free inspection and repair service to owners of applicable models. For customers with the applicable models, we request you to please contact your nearest Sony Service Centre @ 6473 6500 for the inspection arrangement.
More details can be found on Sony’s website.
This wasn’t how I intended to do as my first blog post after reviving my blog from my short hiatus. But when Mum told me that the man killed was the father of my tutor, I felt an ache in my heart. It always hit me when I hear death of someone whom I know or someone close to someone I know.
I’ve never met her father, but I know my tutor and her sister. They’re both very nice people. She’s my first tutor and until today, she’ll still ask about me when she sees my mother at the coffee shop. And through my mum, I know about how the two sisters are doing.
I first heard about the case over radio while on the road. I was sad that such things happened to a friendly old man, as reported by the press. But when I heard that the man was father of my tutor, I feel worst. I hope whoever that may know what happened help solve this case. Don’t be selfish. Cooperate with the police. I’m sure the family needs and wants to know who, what or why it happened.
Condolences to the victim’s family.
Few minutes ago, one of my colleague shouted that there’s an explosion at PUB building at Somerset. Then I remembered two of my uncles are working in that building! Quickly SMS them to see if they’re alright.
One of them called and told me that there was an explosion in the maintenance room on the highest floor. And his was on the 2nd. Everyone evacuated from the building.
Colleague’s girlfriend is working in a school nearby, everyone around the building also evacuated to safe zones.
Just relieved that my uncles are both well and fine.
From ST online…
FOUR workers were injured in a flash fire which broke out at the Singapore Power building on Somerset Road at 10.10am on Wednesday.
One worker suffered burns while the others came down with smoke inhalation.
The fire triggered a 15-minute power outage in the vicinity, and prompted mass evacuation of office staff in several buildings in the area.
It is understood that a switch gear in a room on the third floor of the SingPower sparked off the electrical fire.
Office workers in the area heard a loud explosion, followed by black smoke rising from the building.
Some buildings in the area reported power failures, and immediately evacuated staff as a safety measure.
Some 500 workers in the SingPower building were asked to leave their premises and move outdoor.
The building management of The Heeren, which is about 300 metres away, also evacuated some 30 people from the shopping centre.
Mr Jae Liew, 41, a relations manager at The Heeren said he heard a ‘loud bang’, which immediately triggered a blackout in the building.
He added that the traffic lights in the area also went out of order.
A spokesman for SingPower said power was restored within 15 minutes.
It’s really nothing to shout about, but since some people every little thing also want to blog, so I shall post this up too. Haha! At least I got my face on it lah. So still better than just name mentioned lah. But still, its seriously no big deal lah.
Anyway, if you didn’t see it on TNP, here’s the shot of the little box I was given.

So how did my face got up there and why was I asked to give a statement on this topic? Seriously, I also don’t know why leh. This girl whom I met at one of the event who’s interning at SPH, just happened to call me on Friday and asked if she can ask me some questions. I thought she’s doing some feedback collection for her article, so I just answered her loh. Then after that she told me to send a photo to her. I was like… erm… alright loh. You asked me to send so I send loh.
Later then I found out its going to be under Speak Column. Which I have no idea what’s it about leh. Haha! I seldom read papers one. So today when I saw TNP, then I realised its somewhere where public can contribute their letters/comments or shots in to be published lah. If its being selected for publishing, the contributor will get $50 border voucher. But sadly, I didn’t receive any since ermm… they’re the one that contacted me.
So ya, that’s that lah. Anyway, I guess many bloggers or readers of online stuff would not have seen that papers too lah. So I’m posting it up here for all to see loh.
I hope if ever I get a chance to appear in the news again, they’ll be kind enough to mention my blog lah. Then my traffic might go even higher lah. Haha! Like the previous one I was featured, Sandra did mention about Yebber.com. So I’m happy lah. At least my work is being “promoted” on the papers lah. So if you’re reading this, and hope to feature me in your next article, be kind k? Mention my URL. It’s so simple leh! Just add .sg behind my name! :P
Abang told me that a man died after being bit by a crab sometime ago. I started to panic even more when he couldn’t recall whether the man was bitten by a live crab or a cooked one.
My finger was being poked by the pincer of a cooked black pepper crab on Sunday night at Mummy’s day dinner. I didn’t bother much about being poke then and was enjoying eating the crab.
